City officials spruce up the streets of Diepsloot

DIEPSLOOT– Residents were educated on various issues related to all aspects of service delivery, including how to actively be involved in keeping the City’s services running smoothly and uninterrupted.

The MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services Department in the City of Johannesburg, Mpho Moerane and City officials of different departments recently took to the streets of Diepsloot to clean up as a part of the Kleena Joburg Reloaded cleaning campaign.

The deputy director of communication and stakeholder relations in the office of the MMC, Stanley Itshegetseng said the Kleena Joburg clean-up project was launched by Mayor Geoff Makhubo last year in an effort to transform the city into a clean and safe environment for families and residents to enjoy. Itshegetseng said, “This week the Kleena Joburg Reloaded moved to Diepsloot where the operation was able to expand due to the lockdown Level 1, which enabled us to interact with a bigger audience, while still observing the Covid-19 safety guidelines protocol.”

He added, “As more people became accessible, the campaign was for the first time able to focus on education.” He said that residents were also educated on various issues relating to all aspects of service delivery, including how to be actively involved in keeping the City’s services running smoothly and uninterrupted. “The resumption of the Kleena Joburg Reloaded campaign assumes an integrated services delivery approach where the City’s entities join forces to render a variety of services. Initially scheduled to start in late 2019, the campaign was interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic and its lockdown restrictions.

“Following the lifting of some of the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions, the campaign was relaunched as Kleena Joburg Reloaded which came with specifications and guidelines of the Covid-19 safety precautions,” Itshegetseng concluded that the operation uncovered and removed illegal landfills which posed a risk to residents as landfills could not be situated in close proximity to where residents lived.
