Rider soars to new heights championships

FOURWAYS – Starting his motocross riding career at the tender age of three years old, James Reilly says his dream is to be a world champion.

A Fourways resident is starting to make a name for himself at only five years old after he took part in an Inland MX Championship recently.

Beaulieu Preparatory School learner, James Reilly won the first and second heats of the championship in the 50cc Junior Class. James received his first bike for his third birthday and thus his riding career began. “I saw lots of people racing on YouTube and my daddy had a bike. I had always wanted one too,” he said. Ever since he started riding competitively, James has raced against older boys and has always finished first or second.

He started racing in the 50cc Junior Championship halfway through the season last year where he finished first on the podium in his third race. “I definitely learn a lot from riding with older boys because I have to ride faster to beat them. In my team, Just Kids Racing, my older teammates who ride bigger bikes also help me with my riding.” He added, “My best part about riding motorbikes is racing with my friends and training as hard as I can to get faster and faster.”

James is an enthusiastic sportsman and enjoys cricket and football even though he does not have time for all of them as he trains two to three times a week for motocross. He said his goal is to become a world motocross champion.
