Tshuma Stingers remain optimistic about future

MIDRAND – Tshuma Stingers coach Barry Nkosi said the Covid-19 pandemic had been hard on the mental health of athletes and coaches.

Tshuma Stingers Rugby Club remains optimistic despite the Covid-19 restrictions which prevent them from operating normally.

Coach Barry Nkosi told the Fourways Review, although there were restrictions in place for rugby, his players still put in the hard work.

Nkosi added that his players have been attending local gyms and doing road training. He said the resumption of amateur rugby would follow a structured approach to ensure that the safety of the players was being taken into consideration.

Nkosi added that the first phase entailed the team doing non-contact training for a minimum of four weeks. “The emphasis in this time will be focused on fitness and strength training of our players.

“The second phase, if permitted by the relevant authoritative bodies, there will be a minimum of four weeks of gradual integration of contact training before they can return to play, which will be the third phase,” said Nkosi.

He added that this journey had been hard on the mental health of players and coaches.

However, he assured Midranders that Tshuma Stingers were keeping their fingers crossed in hopes that they would be able to compete soon.
