Learners lend a helping hand to local facilities

LONEHLL – Crawford Cares has also worked hand in hand with Fourways-based non-profit organisation Daily Bread, to feed people on weekends in different parts of Johannesburg since the lockdown was introduced last year.

A group of learners known as the Crawford Cares team is on a mission to help as many people as possible this year following lockdown last year.

Grade 12 learners at the school – Sarita Pillay, Serisha Ramlall and Danilea Ramlakan, under the leadership of the school’s admin assistant Margaret Selaelo, have been part of the Crawford Cares team for the past four years now.

The group from Crawford International Lonehill works with different community organisations to lend a helping hand through social work and donations. The group say they are looking forward to a much better year in 2021 following uncertainties and distractions last year.

“We’ve been part of Crawford Cares team since we were in Grade 8 until today. Last year we couldn’t do much to help in different facilities because of Covid-19 pandemic lockdown. We are, however, this year looking forward to visit and help as much as we can in different shelters, orphanage homes and old age homes,” explained Danilea.

Team members added that working with different organisations has helped them get a better understanding of the world they live in.

Serisha said, “Working in these community facilities have taught us a number of things that we were not aware of. It has also broadened our understanding and perspective about the world we live in.

“Donating things like food, stationery and many other essential staff to disadvantaged communities have shown us how much we need each other. It gives us pleasure and satisfaction knowing that we have made a little difference in someone’s life every time we go to these places.”

Crawford Cares has also worked  hand in hand with Fourways-based non-profit organisation Daily Bread, to feed people on weekends in different parts of Johannesburg since the lockdown was introduced last year.

Sarita concluded, “Every weekend, we join forces with Daily Bread non-profit organisation to donate sandwiches in different parts of Johannesburg.

“This project teaches and encourages us to give from the little we have.”
