Cellehof Stud and Livery enjoys life in 2021

BLUE HILLS – Local yard shows growth and development at the start of the year.

Growth and new things have been the order of the day at Cellehof Stud and Livery lately.

The Blue Hills venue celebrated the birth of a foal in January, expanded its dam, has plans to launch an app and even built a motocross circuit. Riders have also been training their horses for upcoming shows in a year that surely promises to be better than last year on the equestrian scene.

“Our three-week-old foal has not been given a name yet but the mare is Ballerina and his father is an import from Germany, Daddy Cool,” said Cellehof’s owner Dominey Alexander. He added that Daddy Cool (7) had bred five foals in recent years. “This year is still in limbo but we have abided by the lockdown rules. We are still coaching and want to launch the One-On-One Coach app that people can use for live coaching. We recently dug around the dam to make it bigger.”

A zip line was installed over the dam and a motocross track was built with the help of a neighbour and former professional, for further excitement. “As a rider there are a few showjumping titles I am looking at winning this year.” These events include the Stokkiesdraai in Brits at the end of the month, the President’s Cup at Maple Ridge in March and the Easter Show at Kyalami Park Club in April.

Alexander has been riding Belgian import Jelle in showjumping, but he also hopes to train up one or two other jumping horses for himself. Jelle is sponsored by Natalie and Ross Robinson at RnR. Other goals for Alexander this year include earning a win at the South African Show Jumping Championships in the middle of the year, and finding a good European import he can use in competitions.

“I have a few young horses that will start being ridden now and it will be exciting to see them in action.”
