Three killed following a taxi collision in Lonehill

LONEHILL – Five patients were found to be in a critical condition while seven others had sustained minor to moderate injuries.

ER24 paramedics responded to a collision that left three people killed and 12 others injured when a taxi rolled on Main Road in Lonehill, Fourways on 8 February.

“ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene to find the taxi upright on the side of the road. Several people were found lying on the roadside after they were ejected when the vehicle rolled,” Russel Meiring said in a released statement.

Meiring said that paramedics assessed the patients. Two men and a woman who sustained fatal injuries were declared dead. “Twelve other patients were tended to on scene. Five were found to be in a critical condition while seven others had sustained minor to moderate injuries. Medics treated the patients and provided the critically injured with advanced life support interventions,” Meiring explained.

Meiring added that once treated, three critically injured patients were airlifted by private medical helicopters to nearby hospitals while the remaining patients were transported by ambulances. Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
