Festive season healthy meals for the blind

FOURWAYS – After a virtual cooking demonstration with a number of healthy ingredients, the Hirsch's Fourways team gave the food to the children at the Johannesburg School for the Blind.

The Hirsch’s team brought smiles to children at the Johannesburg School for the Blind by cooking a hearty festive season meal during the Hirsch’s Kitchen Capers Zoom and Facebook live event last year.

The event was hosted by Margaret Hirsch, executive director of the Hirsch’s Group. Hirsch’s partnered with Bosch for the virtual cooking demonstration which featured lifestyle chef and cookery book author, Izelle Hoffman and her sous chef Alain Tardin.

The day’s menu consisted of recipes from Hoffman’s cookbook, including honey and mustard chicken tray bake with cinnamon roasted sweet potato and butternut, minted peas, savoury rice and some sweet cinnamon cookies.

Once the cooking was done, the team headed to the Johannesburg School for the Blind to give them the healthy, delicious meals. Hirsch has worked with the school for a number of years, as part of the appliance store. “These children are amazing and so talented in their own right. There are children that are the most beautiful painters even though they cannot see, they are such an inspiration,” she said.
