Club serves fun to community

PAULSHOF – Fun was held all day the Rivonia Recreation Club with a Wimbledon theme for all tennis players.

Rivonia Recreation Club hosted doubles tennis matches as part of their year-end function on 29 November.

Green, white and purple were the theme in line with the Wimbledon colours. Manager of the club, Matthew Bayley said the day was just about having fun with family and friends. There were different events taking place throughout the day.

“We had husbands and wives playing each other, and some people came with their parents and younger children as well.

“There was no real format in each match, no full sets. There was also something for the kids with the tennis coaches, which was lovely to see,” he added.

The credit of the day’s organising went to two head coaches at the tennis club, Derik Swanepoel and Melissa Dowse.

Chairperson of the tennis club, Ursula de Kok said the turnout at the event was unexpected but very welcome.

“Since we’ve got the grass courts here, it’s the reason we’ve chosen the Wimbledon theme. It’s just a nice day to be out in the sun with family and friends.

“People who don’t usually play tennis are here, and it’s really great to see. It was something for everyone at different levels to come and enjoy,” added De Kok.
