Shumbashaba non-profit organisation wishes Joburg North community a happy festive season

FOURWAYS – Heather Rufus from Shumbashaba said the organisation went through a lot this year and learned a couple of lessons following Covid-19 pandemic.

Fourways based non-profit organisation Shumbashaba Community Trust has shared it’s Christmas and festive season message to all community members in Fourways and Diepsloot.

Heather Rufus, who assists with social media and marketing at Shumbashaba, said, “The year 2020 has been a year that to have lived through, is to have seen history writing itself. Every person has been touched in some way by the events of the Covid-19 pandemic and consequent lockdowns around the year.”

Rufus said the organisation went through a lot this year. “Shumbashaba has had to learn a great deal this year as an organisation but we remain positive and determined to help our country to move forward. Our work in the community had established a network of organisations and people on the ground. We had become a reputable community centre people trusted. We had to change plans to adapt to the new normal.”

“Our close proximity to the community, our existing relationship with many families whose children attended our programmes and an incredibly motivated and quick-thinking team resulted in the idea that we could fundraise money to put together and distribute food parcels to those in need.”

She reminded community members about the reality of Covid-19 and urged them to adhere to all regulations put in place to minimise chances of contracting the virus. “The months of the hard lockdown may be behind us, but the effects and the virus itself still live among us. We must at all times act with caution and practise social distance to dodge this deadly virus.”

She concluded with a message for the festive season, “We wish to extend our Christmas wishes to all community members and partners. We wish them a merry Christmas and wonderful new year ahead.”
