Douglasdale mother reports son following threats

DOUGLASDALE – Quick work of the Douglasdale Tracing Team ensures the safety of the community and arrest of a suspect.

A 24-year-old suspect who appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court is facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and common assault.

The suspect made his first appearance in court on 11 November.

Spokesperson for Douglasdale Police Station, Captain Mpho Tshetlhane said the mother of the suspect allegedly came across a firearm in her house in Pipeline informal settlement on 8 November.

She confronted the suspect who then allegedly threatened to kill her. “The suspect assaulted the victim, pulled out the knife and scratched her around her neck.

“The victim reported the case to the police. Intensive police investigation led to the arrest of the suspect at his girlfriend’s house in Diepsloot. He was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.”

Police investigations are still ongoing.

Station Commander of Douglasdale Police Station, Brigadier Veeshani Arikum applauded the fast response of the Douglasdale Tracing Team members for their commitment in ensuring that the people of Douglasdale are and feel safe.

“We also remind owners of illegal and/or unwanted firearms and ammunition or parts to take advantage of the firearm amnesty period that ends on 31 January 2021,” Tshetlhane concluded.
