Riding stars in the making at Silver Tree Stables in Kyalami

KYALAMI – Since the hard lockdown ended, the yard has held lessons and pony camps, and its riders have attended the odd show at Kyalami Park Club (KPC) and Inanda Country Base.

Equestrian stars in the making are having a blast training together at Silver Tree Stables in Kyalami.

Every day, new young riders take the reins for the first time while others hone their already-impressive skills.

Since the hard lockdown ended, the yard has held lessons and pony camps, and its riders have attended the odd show at Kyalami Park Club (KPC) and Inanda Country Base.

The yard even hosted a water slide day as a fundraiser for a sick horse.

“We have some riders preparing for KPC’s graded showjumping show on the weekend, and later their Christmas show and Youth Championships in December,” said instructor, Rhiannon Cecil.

“Our rider, Cameron Dawson is currently at the Adult Show Jumping Championships in Shongweni.”

Cecil added that there were no South African National Equestrian Schools Association competitions on the go, so younger riders were preparing to hit the ground running next year.

“We have had lots of new children and adults join us since hard lockdown ended as people have not been able to play the sports they could before.

“Riding outdoors like this is safe and fun and it brings children together. They support each other, if not in person at the shows then they at least follow up with each other and encourage one another on WhatsApp.”

The stables mostly trains showjumpers but there are a few equitation and dressage riders as well.

It is a good time to start riding horses, Cecil added, because with a number of new people having done just this, small classes of new riders have started at Silver Tree Stables and people were learning well together at similar levels.
