ICYMI: Leeuwkop to host this year’s MTB Challenge towards the end of November

SUNNINGHILL– Lamola has decided to champion an annual fundraiser that can contribute to solving the transport challenges for underprivileged scholars in rural areas.

In a bid to raise funds and awareness about the plight of underprivileged learners living in rural areas, Leeuwkop Correctional Services will host this year’s MTB Cycling Challenge on 28 November at the facility’s trail in Sunninghill.

The prestigious event, which is spearheaded by the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Ronald Lamola who is also a passionate cyclist, will take place at Leeuwkop Correctional Services Golf Club from 6am.

Stakeholder relations manager at the office of the minister, Gabriel Seakamela, said participants would have an opportunity to participate in a 5km, 10km and a 30km trail commencing at 7.30am, 9.30am and 9.45am respectively.

“The Leeuwkop MTB Challenge is a pre-entry event, aimed for young and old participants who are looking to get fit, challenge themselves, raise awareness and raise funds for a worthy cause, while having fun in a safe environment with their families and friends. A rare opportunity to explore a trail that is usually inaccessible to the public,” he added.

“Minister Lamola has decided to champion an annual fundraiser that can contribute to solving the transport challenges for underprivileged scholars in rural areas. This obstacle affects school attendance, and can have a detrimental effect on the education of young children.”

He added that participants would be required to adhere to Covid-19 regulations on the day of the event.

“Sanitising stations will be available along the trail, as well as accredited mobile food trucks that meet the necessary health and safety regulations. Attendees will be required to wear masks in all public areas,” he concluded.
