Suspects involved with Paulshof hijacking are arrested

PAULSHOF – Suspects who allegedly attempted to hijack a resident's vehicle, were apprehended for house robbery later that morning.

A number of suspects were arrested on 20 October after two separate crime incidents.

A woman in Paulshof was apparently followed home by the suspects to her residence.

The suspects smashed her car window using a crowbar after which the woman hooted, alerting neighbours to the commotion outside her gate.

Head of security for Paulshof, and Hill Community Association member, Paul Gibbon said the area had not had an incident such as this for a while but was grateful for the immediate response of security personnel. “We have all the helpers in the area carry panic buttons, so one of them heard what was happening and they pressed the panic button. There was security patrolling the area and they came to the residence. The perpetrators [fled] as soon as the panic button was pressed,” he said.

Captain Bheki Xulu, spokesperson for Sandton Police Station said a case of attempted hijacking had been opened at

the station.

He added that after the hijacking attempt, the same suspects were allegedly involved in a house robbery in Parkmore. “The same day of the attempted hijacking, the same three suspects at 11.15am entered a house in Parkmore while the complainant was inside. They took TV items, cell phones, handbags and jewellery.

“The suspects’ vehicle was spotted in Marlboro and police gave chase.”

The suspects have been apprehended and the case is with the Bramley Police Station for further investigation.

Gibbon concluded that residents should to be vigilant of their surroundings. “This is a warning to us all to be vigilant. Watch out for cars following you. Drive around and hit the panic button if you are suspicious.”
