Man sentenced to 6 years’ for robbery in Fourways

FOURWAYS – Nkosinathi Mthembu was sentenced after he and his two accomplices entered a cell phone shop in Fourways on the afternoon of 26 March last year.

A 31-year-old man was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 17 August for committing a robbery in Fourways.

The spokesperson of Douglasdale Police Station, Captain Mpho Tshetlhane said the three men filled a bag with cell phones and iPads worth R300 000 and fled the scene.

“The security guard gave chase and the police were alerted about the incident. Mthembu was then cornered at the corner of William Nicol Drive and Fourways Boulevard after his accomplices left him behind.”

Mthembu was arrested for business robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm. Items that were stolen were recovered.

“The sentence given to the accused is an indication that the police are determined to ensure that the community of Douglasdale are and feel safe.”

Acting Station Commander Colonel Moeti Senna said, “We applaud the hard work and determination by the investigating officer Sergeant Morwamocha Maloka.”
