Three men are arrested in Sunninghill

SUNNINGHILL – The three suspects were charged with possession of a stolen firearm.

Sandton police officers arrested three men on the corner of Bowling Avenue and Witkoppen Road in Sunninghill on 7 October for possession of a suspected robbed vehicle and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station Captain Bheki Xulu said, “At about 7.30pm the Flying Squad Unit was doing their normal focus patrol duties when they noticed a suspicious vehicle with three occupants.”

Xulu said the officers tested the vehicle registration number and saw that it was linked to an open case. Police stopped the vehicle and found three men inside, aged between 22 and 31 years. “The vehicle was searched and an unlicensed firearm was found with serial number filed off and tested immediately. The suspects were apprehended and charged for being in the possession of a robbed and unlicensed firearm.”

The suspects are expected to appear in Wynberg Magistrates’ Court soon.
