Service is where the heart is for Diepsloot organisation

FOURWAYS – Chingwaru said there was no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting others up.

A Fourways-based non-profit organisation, Simuka Afrika handed over hundreds of food parcels and face masks to needy families in Drummond and Fandisa informal settlements during its recent outreach programme.

Programmes manager at Simuka Afrika, Godfrey Chingwaru, said they were able to mitigate the severity of food insecurity in the two communities.

“Instead of disregarding the plight or extremities of our neighbours, we believe the best way to find ourselves as humanity is to lose ourselves in the service of others, and there is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting others up,” he said.

Chingwaru added that the leadership of the organisation and the underprivileged but wonderful residents of the two communities were extremely appreciative of residents for their generosity and sacrifice, and were proffering warm messages of gratitude.

“With misconceptions about Fourways being a middle class suburb, without any major financial challenges, it is not always easy to get monetary assistance.”

Chingwaru has appealed to socially concerned corporates and individuals to donate non-perishable food or cash to help the organisation to reach disadvantaged communities.

He concluded, “The urgent need is ensuring food security in the form of assorted food hampers and Covid-19 infection prevention materials, such as masks, sanitisers, bath soap and other essential needs. No donation is too small or too big.”
