ICYMI: Join Fourways CAN and support Takane Academy

FOURWAYS – Take part in the DoNATION competition in support of the Takane Academy in Bloubosrand.

The Fourways Can (Community Action Network) invites locals to celebrate their heritage and support the Takane Academy, based in Bloubosrand near Kya Sands Pipeline, this Heritage Month.

Leader of the Fourways Can Janna Couto said that the initiative aims to help the school become more sustainable by raising funds to purchase much-needed resources. “The school has a number of needs, but the most urgent is the ceiling as it has rotted and is about to fall down,” said Couto.

The Fourways Can also hopes to assist to purchase AstroTurf grass for their play area, which is currently a patch of dirt. They also hope to buy paint and new furniture including desks, chairs, black/white boards and tables. A veggie garden has also been started to aid in the school’s feeding scheme. “We are appealing to the general public to help us provide much-needed help to this school… For the children who attend, items like paint, toilet paper and grass to play on are considered a luxury.”

Couto chose to champion the school after working to empower many people from the Pipeline community whose children attend the school. “The principal Caroline Libongani-Ngwenyai made an impact on me and really wanted to uplift the school and help provide the children with quality education, which is something that is close to my heart.”

“Our vision is to have a space that inspires learning and hope. A space where these children feel safe, secure and cared for.”

Locals are encouraged to support the DoNATION competition in aid of the Takane Academy. Entrants can donate any amount of money to the Takane Academy Fund and take a photo of themselves dressed up in clothing displaying their cultural heritage on 23 and 24 September and WhatsApp their photos to 082 566 7231.

The competition is open to children, teenagers and adults. A number of hampers including a Huawei Media Pad and R1 000 voucher are up for grabs. To donate, visit addabit.com/fund/do.nation or visit www.fourwayscan.co.za Couto encourages members of the public to unite and develop a culture of being South AfriCANS.

“We really CAN all make a difference together. To uplift our country we need to help the marginalised, impoverished people that are overlooked and forgotten. Only through education can we change the trajectory of our country.”
