Stepping Stones a hit again at Fourways Riding Centre

TIMSRAND – Local yard hosts multi-discipline show over the weekend.

The riding community had a blast when the multi-discipline Stepping Stones Super League returned on 15 and 16 August.

Showjumping, dressage, equitation, showing and eventing were the order of the weekend at Fourways Riding Centre in Timsrand. Riders dressed themselves and their horses to the nines and flaunted their skill in the Rose Festival, Flying Tiger and Milton International arenas as well as on the cross country track.

Categories were as diverse as the disciplines, with riders competing from level 0 (lead rein) to level 5 (1.00m jumps) in the ungraded show.
This was the second leg of the series this year. The first leg was held back in February before the lockdown started. Safety protocols were followed to a T, with registers and temperature checks being done at the door and all participants and supporters having to wear face masks when not riding.

Social distancing was followed and a limited number of people were allowed on the premises at a time.
There was no prize-giving and riders were asked to leave after their competitions were finished. Results were emailed to participants and sponsored prizes were also to be delivered to winners

“We are glad to host the show again,” yard owner, Marion Clough said. She explained that preparation for the event was not easy with safety guidelines changing more than once.

International showing judge, Greg Goss described the show as a success, noting how pleasing it was to see riders adhering to safety protocols. “The standard of ponies and horses was good and the turnout and entries were great,” he said.

The third leg of the show is scheduled for 17 and 18 October, and the fourth and final leg will be on 28 and 29 November. The series’ awards evening and Christmas dinner is scheduled for 5 December.
