Vigilant members of the Sandton police team arrested two suspected hijackers in Sunninghill on 9 August.
According to Sandton Police Station spokesperson Captain Granville Meyer, the suspects from Diepsloot were arrested after police members on patrol randomly tested their vehicle for ownership. “It was positively linked to a carjacking case that happened during the same day in the Benoni policing precinct,” said Meyer.
“Upon further investigation, the police members also found an illegal firearm in the motor vehicle. The serial number of the firearm was filed off.”
Meyer added that the suspects would appear in the Benoni Magistrates’ Court.
