The Riders Series returns to Blue Hills

BLUE HILLS – Ezethu's The Riders Series returns along with strict safety protocols.

After a long break, the Riders Series is finally returning to Blue Hills.Ezethu stables will host the fourth leg of the showjumping series on 9 and 10 August after the third leg was held way back in mid-March.

“Our federation [South African Equestrian Federation] has allowed us to host limited-size events, with 50 people at the venue at a time,” explained Ezethu’s show director, Esla du Plessis.

“So we will hold different classes at different times to make sure we adhere to this. There will also be no prize-giving, results will be mailed to people electronically. There will be pre-packaged catering to limit interaction and contact.”

Other safety protocols to be followed on the Sunday and Monday include sanitising stations, social distancing, the wearing of face masks when not riding and having declaration forms and temperature checks upon arrival. All riders have to book their spots in the show before coming so organisers can ensure no more than the limited number of people are present.

They also have to print out and bring their own declaration forms and park their vehicles a certain distance from each other.”The staff and their families have stayed on-site during the lockdown and everyone has been safe from the coronavirus,” Du Plessis added.

“We only host five shows per year at Ezethu but it will be nice to see the public again. We have not struggled financially like other yards have during the lockdown, as the property is owned privately and does not have to host the shows for an income.”As it was at the previous legs of the series, the higher jumps will be held on the second day.
