Fourways Riding Centre’s motivation for horse riders

TIMSRAND – Local yard owner encourages community to stay safe and positive.

Horse riding has seen a return of lessons and small events in recent weeks.

For those working in the industry this has been much needed as a source of income. For the horse riders themselves, this has also been a welcome development in a sport widely regarded to be therapeutic and safe if strict protocols are implemented.

“We [riding schools and yards] are all doing what we can to apply the rules given to us by the South African Equestrian Federation and I think the public know enough about the virus now to take it seriously,” said Fourways Riding Centre owner, Marion Clough.

“We have put these safety rules in place and everyone wants to ride, they cannot wait.”

Clough encouraged local horse riders to go to their local yards and exercise their horses after this long time of inactivity.”I would encourage people to exercise but to do so safely. If you don’t have a horse to ride, exercise outside in the sunshine. That can help you stay positive during this time.”

She also encouraged the community to make safe decisions, such as keeping social distancing when going out, taking vitamin C tablets to strengthen their immune systems and prioritising good hygiene.
