Sandton police officers arrest five suspects

JOBURG– A 34-year-old man was arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle at a roadblock in Allandale Road on the evening of 18 July.

Sandton police arrested five suspects in relation to separate incidents in Buccleuch and Midrand on 18 July.

Spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station Captain Granville Meyer said, “Efforts to remove illegal firearms continuously result in successful confiscations in the Sandton policing precinct.”

Meyer said that one firearm was recovered and four suspects arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and an armed robbery in Buccleuch.

“The suspects accosted their victim by threatening her with a firearm while she was busy jogging in the neighbourhood. The suspect then took her cell phone with a value of R25 000.”

Meyer explained the victim alerted security officers on patrol, who responded swiftly. The firearm’s serial number that was found in the possession of the suspects was filed off.

“The suspects were later positively identified by the victim and handed over to police,” he added.

Meyer said that in an unrelated matter, a 34-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle at a roadblock in Allandale Road, Midrand on the evening of 18 July.

Meyer said the vehicle was positively linked to a theft case.All these suspects were scheduled to appear in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 20 July.Details: Sandton Police Station011 722 4200
