City opens up 21 clinics for Covid-19 testing

JOBURG – In addition to opening the 21 clinics, the City is also running a 24-hour Joint Operations Centre to boost emergency preparedness and response measures to Covid-19.

The City has opened 21 of its 79 clinics across the Metro as screening and testing sites for the Covid-19.

In a statement released by the City of Johannesburg, Executive Mayor Geoff Makhubo stated that this was being done to help stop the novel coronavirus from spreading. The clinics which are spread across all seven regions of Johannesburg will assist the municipality to respond rapidly to suspected cases of new infections.

“If you’re feeling symptomatic, do visit one of our clinics in your region. Remember to hlapa matsoho (wash hands) and wear your mask to help protect you and your loved ones,” he said.

In addition to opening the 21 clinics, the City is also running a 24-hour Joint Operations Centre to boost emergency preparedness and response measures to Covid-19. The municipality has also trained healthcare workers on Covid-19 to assist residents with education and contact tracing, focusing on high-density and high-risk areas.

Further to response measures, Makhubo noted that the City has allocated buildings to be used as isolation and quarantine centres.Residents of Joburg who wish to locate clinics made available for testing and screening for Covid-19 should contact the City’s 24-hour Disaster Management Centre on010 224 0932.
