Diepsloot locals protest service delivery at soil-turning event with Mayor Makhubo

DIEPSLOOT – Diepsloot residents took the opportunity to raise their concerns with the mayor.

A small group of protesters gathered at the site of a soil-turning ceremony in Dieplsoot on 10 July.

Mayor of Johannesburg Geoff Makhubo and MMC for Housing Mlungisi Mabaso were at the site on the corner of Witkoppen Road and Summit Road in Diepsloot to unveil the new site of a temporary housing structure.

The group of about 50 people gathered to voice their concerns about the site and lack of electricity in the area. Some of the protestors said that they have not had electricity for three months.

Following the event, Makhubo took the opportunity to engage with the protestors, however, said that it would need to be kept short due to the lack of social distancing.

Makhubo said that he would set up a team to engage with the residents about their service delivery concerns.
