Yarona remains positive for African Champs

FOURWAYS – Sixteen-year-old Yarona Morule has not let the cancellation of a tennis tournament dampen his spirits.

Local resident, Yarona Morule (16) was to represent South Africa at the African Tennis Championships before they were postponed, but this setback has not dampened his spirits.

The championships were to be held in Togo in mid-April before the coronavirus saw to it that the event was postponed. No date has been set yet for the rescheduling of the event, but instead of feeling down, Yarona has stayed positive and active throughout the lockdown.

“I was selected for the South African U16 team and it would have been the first time I played for my country,” the Fourways resident said with a smile.”It [the championships] will probably be held at the end of the year or early next year, so we do not turn a year older before it.”

He said he was still positive he would be selected for the SA U16 team, and there is only one thing he wants out of the tournament. “We are going there to win it, that’s all.”

Yarona plies his trade at Next Generation Tennis in Parkmore. His coach, Ndu Ncube believes it will be four to six weeks before Tennis South Africa has competitions and leagues running again. Even so, Yarona will be more than ready for them as the tennis academy has returned to training already.

Furthermore, the players were coached through online videos during the early months of lockdown.
