Local continues to give free exercise tips

SUNNINGHILL – Stretch your back, leg and arm muscles with the roll-up.

Sunninghill physiotherapist Olivia Schiller has released more free exercise videos for people to do at home during the lockdown.

These videos can help one increase their muscle strength when so many gyms and fitness companies are closed at this time.

In one video, Schiller, who is also a Sunninghill Striders member, teaches us how to do what she calls an ‘advancement of the side plank’.She begins by resting sideways on her elbow, hip and feet on an exercise mat. She is facing the camera with her body perpendicular to the ground.

“You are going to lift up and hold and then lift up the top leg,” Schiller says in the video while her dog comes to investigate.

She raises her hip off the ground and straightens her body so she is only supported by her elbow and feet. Then she raises and lowers her leg that is furthest from the ground. “And try to reach 15, and then the other side.”In a normal side plank exercise, one would hold their body off the ground on their elbow and feet, without raising and lowering the outside leg as Schiller does.
