Gauteng Department of Health unpacks Covid-19 stats in your district

A total of 70 people are currently hospitalised in public and private facilities with the virus.

The Gauteng Department of Health has confirmed that the total number of Covid-19 cases in Gauteng on 21 May sits at 2 453 with 1 776 recoveries and 27 deaths.

A total of 70 people are currently hospitalised in public and private facilities with the virus.

Out of a total of 13 442 contacts traced (these are individuals who were in contact with someone who tested positive for Covid-19), 8 560 people have completed the 14-day monitoring period with no symptoms and have therefore been de-isolated.

The breakdown per district is as follows:

  • Johannesburg: 1 273 cases with 31 new cases, 13 deaths and 1 060 recoveries
  • Ekurhuleni: 551 cases with eight new cases, eight deaths and 395 recoveries
  • Tshwane: 352 cases with six new cases, three deaths and 261 recoveries
  • Sedibeng: 43 cases with 1 new case, no deaths and 15 recoveries
  • West Rand: 77 cases with five new cases, three deaths and 45 recoveries
  • Unallocated: 157 cases and three new cases.
