Meet the petite and spunky Siglavy Odaliska

KYALAMI – Members of the public are encouraged to support the South African Lipizzaners in any way they can during lockdown.

The South African Lipizzaners wish to introduce the spunky Siglavy Odaliska.

Volunteer Gina Boxley describes the 14-year-old Lipizzaner saying, “His spirit and enthusiasm is infectious.”

She said, “His crowning achievement is his capriole but he also performs the school quadrille and is ridden in side-saddle.”

Current rider Jhan-Mari van den Berg said, “Although small in stature, this petite stallion doesn’t let that stop him. If anything, it completes his cheeky nature.”

“He is one of my favourites. With his honest character and eager mind, his is a pleasure to work with. He has a heart of a lion, if he doesn’t always have the bravery of one,” said Van den Berg.

Boxley said that Siglavy Odaliska is dynamite in a small package. His party trick, according to Boxley, is his ability to change direction instantaneously, leaving his rider without a horse. This happens only when a rider is lulled into a false sense of security.

Siglavy Odaliska is proudly sponsored by Dominique Prinsloo.

During lockdown, the Lipizzaners have had to cancel their weekly performances, resulting in a large drop in funding to feed the stallions.

Members of the public are encouraged to support the South African Lipizzaners, based in Kyalami, in any way they can during lockdown.
