Covid-19: Gauteng records 1 804 cases, 1 197 recoveries and 15 deaths

A total of 66 people are currently hospitalised in public and private facilities for Covid-19 in Gauteng.

The Gauteng Department of Health announced on that, as of 7 May, the total number of Covid-19 cases sits at 1 804 with 1 197 recoveries and 15 deaths.

A total of 66 people are currently hospitalised in public and private facilities for Covid-19 in the province.

According to a statement by the department on 8 May, out of 9 204 contacts traced (these are individuals who were in contact with people who tested positive for Covid-19), 7 990 people have completed the 14-day monitoring period with no symptoms reported. They have now been de-isolated.

The breakdown per district is as follows:

  • Johannesburg: 1 009 cases, 770 recoveries
  • Ekurhuleni: 398 cases, 280 recoveries
  • Tshwane: 258 cases, 108 recoveries
  • Sedibeng: 21 cases, 7 recoveries
  • West Rand: 54 cases, 32 recoveries
  • Unallocated: 64 cases
