Young Lonehill resident challenges others to shave and share

LONEHILL – Ryan Parish shaved his head and donated R100 from his pocket money to SA Harvest to help those in need.

Lonehill resident and Grade 6 learner at Rivonia Primary School Ryan Parish has shaved his head and donated R100 of his pocket money and some food to those in need.

Speaking to the Fourways Review, Ryan said that his father, Andrew, suggested that he shave his head and challenge his friends to do the same.

“At first I didn’t want to cut my hair, so my dad said why don’t I cut it, donate R100 of my own money towards charity and challenge all my friends to do the same. I heard my mom and dad talking about how so many people were going to struggle for food and money during lockdown, I decided to do it,” said Ryan.

He donated R100 to SA Harvest and his parents donated a further R800.

“We shopped for groceries and SA Harvest collected them,” said Ryan.

His challenge to his friends and family has yielded results, with many from South Africa and as far afield as New Zealand and Australia donating to charity.

In addition to these kind actions, Ryan donated R500 to someone who needed money to pay rent and he helped distribute sandwiches, made by a friend, to those in need.

He has set up a Facebook page called ‘100 Bucks 4 A Shave?’ where he continues to challenge friends to cut or do something funky with their hair.
