You can’t see us, but we hope you hear us

LONEHILL – Every night at 7pm members of the Lonehill community cheer, clap and sing in thanks for essential workers on the front lines during the lockdown. Why not get involved and share your efforts with us?

We want to see your support for those working to keep South Africa going!

While most South Africans stay home during the lockdown, a number of workers (be it health professionals, security guards, law enforcement officers, grocery store workers or pharmacists) still brave the streets and public spaces so the rest of us can stay home, stay healthy, stay safe and stay fed.

The Lonehill Resident’s Association (LRA) is calling on residents to show their support for these essential workers each evening, and we’d love to be able to share these acts of solidarity on our platforms.

The organisation has issued a call on social media for members of the public, from the safety of their own homes, to share the love for essential workers. “Every evening at 7pm in Lonehill, residents hang out of their balconies, on their patios and in their gardens to clap, shout, sing and blow vuvuzelas in honour of our health and essential supply workers, who are risking their own well-being to support and serve the people of South Africa,” read the Facebook post.

“We know that together we are stronger and are encouraging all our residents to come out […] each night to honour these incredible people.

“Let our guards hear us. Let the residents in Lonehill who are one of these health workers hear us. Let’s clap for one another.”

If you and your family are participating in this act of solidarity (whether in Lonehill or somewhere else in the area), please share your videos with the Fourways Review so we can make sure your thanks are heard across the community.
