Covid-19: Well wishes for Zwelinzima Vavi after confirming positive test for Covid-19
Vavi said he had been experiencing flu-like symptoms before he was tested.
General secretary of the South Africa Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) Zwelinzima Vavi has publicly confirmed that he has tested positive for Covid-19 on 2 April.
Vavi said he had been experiencing flu-like symptoms that would not go away since last week Friday (27 March), he tweeted, “Had a lingering flu since Friday! Felt I must act on caution and tested on Saturday but they only checked the temperature which was normal. Flu persisted and Tuesday went back to the doctor and insisted on proper testing – boom – positive.”
He said he is feeling fine and in good spirits at home self-isolating, “Have to get everyone tested at home! Family, friends and comrades in obvious panic but I am fine and I will win again. Just overwhelmed by media interests which is natural but I can’t cope.”
Today, 3 April, he tweeted:
In isolation at home! The battle is on and there will be one winner – my country and her people, not this invincible invading army #Covid19SA #day8oflockdown pic.twitter.com/YC3Kszu33d

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) media liaison, Sinenhlanhla Jimoh, said they could not comment on individual cases, and, when approached for comment, the Gauteng Department of Health, Kwara Kekana, also said the department could not comment on an individual case.
EFF leader Julius Malema wished Vavi a speedy recovery on Twitter as many sent the secretary-general get-well-soon messages.
