Jungle Rush riders know every trick in the book

CHARTWELL – Jungle Rush freestyle motocross riders show off in Chartwell.

No one tears up the freestyle motocross scene like Jungle Rush does.

The team of six pro riders trains in Chartwell but performs all over Africa at various competitions, events and charity functions.

Indeed, the thrill one feels just watching someone whip, flip and do tricks high in the air on a motorcycle before landing again is enough to draw gasps from crowds.

“Freestyle motocross is a very expressive form of riding a motorcycle,” said Dallan Goldman, winner of the right-side-up and upside-down categories at last year’s annual King of the Whip contest, which is South Africa’s largest showcase of freestyle motocross.

“Motocross itself is obviously going on a circuit, in a loop and racing to see who gets the fastest time, while here we like to express ourselves by performing different tricks… just to see who can extend theirs the biggest.”

Goldman and his father Lyle started Jungle Rush 10 years ago with the goal to make it the number one freestyle training facility.

“It started out as a three-rider team and we have grown to six athletes now. Over the years I have progressed and watching the South Africa stars like Nick de Wit and me coming up as a newbie and catching up to him over the years and having him ride on my team is amazing.”

Other riders include last year’s King of the Whip champion Scott Billett, Jacques Human, Reece Chinery and Mike Oyston.

The King of the Whip is an annual free event for the public to see the country’s best motocross and freestyle motocross riders.

A whip is when the rider turns the rear of the motorcycle around to the side while in the air, and the main award is for the best whips but there are awards for other impressive tricks too.
