MTN also announces 33 per cent decrease in 1GB monthly data #DataIsFalling
JOBURG – Some Twitter users asked for even more price cuts in data, saying mobile data is still expensive.
Network service provider MTN has announced that they will be decreasing their data pricing as per engagements with the Competition Commission.
MTN tweeted, “The first solution, that will be implemented as of 20 April 2020, is price reductions of up to 50 per cent on all 30-day data bundles below 1GB, and a 33 per cent reduction on our 1GB monthly data bundle. These options will be available to customers via *135# and the new MTN app.”
Vodacom made a similar agreement earlier this month by decreasing their data prices by at least 30 per cent, with both competitors set to charge R99 for 1GB monthly data.
As per the announcement by Vodacom, Twitter users were not impressed by the decrease, saying it was not enough, as the charges are still quite expensive compared to other markets in the developing world.
Some Twitter users proposed even lower data prices.
Vodacom,MTN & Telkom is playing with us 1GB from R150 to R99 is still expensive 1GB Should be R10 in all mobile operators #DataMustFall

All the service providers should just reduce the data prices ASAP, I need this data at cheaper rate to catch up with the news and watch videos as I’m self-quarantined! 🤦🏾♂️#DataMustFall pic.twitter.com/fRABKLacyw

This is still a joke. No apology for the past year of ripping us off. All networks must first give us apology free UNLIMITED data for 6-12 months before dropping the price to more than half. #datamustfall
