Community support pours in for Paulshof Hill residents when a pipe bursts

PAULSHOF – A bed and breakfast owner opened up his business for those in need of water while a burst pipe was being tended to.

The community of Paulshof Hill came together amidst recent water cut by providing water to one another.

Johannesburg Water spokesperson Eleanor Mavimbela confirmed that the water cut was caused by a burst pipe.

“The burst pipe is an existing 100mm diameter AC pipe. The pipe burst due to ageing infrastructure,” she said.

The Johannesburg Water Facebook account posted that repairs were being made to the pipe on 12 February and that trees were being removed from the affected area in order to repair the pipe.

Owner of the Pepper Tree Bed and Breakfast, Paul Gibbon had a big hand in providing water to those in his community as residents on Isipingo Road were severely affected.

“We linked the borehole to house plumbing and offered our flat for community showers, as did several other community members who have boreholes,” Gibbons explained.

The owner of the bed and breakfast since January 2007, applauded his community’s efforts in coming together during a time of need. “Other community members offered help with showers as well as water supplies.”

Ward 93 councillor Candice James also applauded the people of Paulshof for working together during his time.

“The Paulshof community is a very active community, and [residents] are always willing to help get issues sorted,” James said.
