UPDATE – One man has been killed during a botched hijacking in Kyalami

KYALAMI – The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital to receive medical attention.


Police have launched a manhunt for an unknown number of suspects who killed a man and injured a woman during a botched hijacking this afternoon (7 January).

According to Provincial Police spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters, the suspects escaped in a white Audi A4 with an unknown registration number.

Peters said, “It is reported that the injured woman was driving their Nissan X-Trail on Tuesday afternoon when they stopped at a red traffic light at the intersection of Maple Road and Main Road near Midrand. Two men allegedly stormed the couple’s vehicle and attempted to get inside the Nissan X-Trail, which then allegedly rolled back downhill and landed in a ditch. ”

Peters said that shots were allegedly fired from the suspects’ vehicle and the female driver was wounded in the upper body and her husband killed.

The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

A case of attempted hijacking, attempted murder and murder has been opened for further investigation.

Police are calling on anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects, to report to the police by calling the crime stop number
