M1 South Bridge receives needed mending

FOURWAYS – The Johannesburg Roads Agency gives an update on what maintenance measures they have put in place at the M1 South Bridge at the Booysens off-ramp.

The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) undertook in its media statement dated 26 December 2019 that its internal maintenance team will put in place holding measures on the M1 South Bridge at the Booysens off-ramp.

The JRA’s internal maintenance team has been working tirelessly since 26 December to 29 December putting in place interim measures as per communication to the public.

The following holding measures have been put in place by the JRA’s internal maintenance team:
1. Unblocking of drain channels.
2. Cleaning of stormwater drains.
3. The hole caused by the erosion in the embankment has been backfilled with sand.
4. Re-paving of the area with paving blocks on both sides of the embankment.
5. The concrete stormwater gutters conveying water under the bridge has been reinstated.
The continuous monitoring of the situation will be undertaken until full permanent rehabilitation is concluded.

The JRA would like to assure road users that the safety of roads and bridges remains JRA’s top priority.

“We thank all roads users for their patience and cooperation during the implementation of the interim measures,” the statement concluded.
