Forget the dog treats, this is what the Ark Animal Centre needs this Christmas

CHARTWELL – You know what will get the pups at Ark Animal Centre really barking? If you donated something from their wish list this holiday season.

Forget about treats, these are the presents that the dogs and puppies from Ark Animal Centre are hoping for this year.

The centre is located in the Chartwell area and cares for dogs, pregnant dogs and puppies that are abandoned, abused or stray. The animals are loved, cared for, and receive veterinary care from the shelter until they are well enough to be adopted into good homes. Although cash donations and volunteers are always welcome, here’s a list of other items the shelter would love to see donated.

“Ark Animal Centre has had a very productive 2019 year,” explained Candice Eilertsen of the shelter. “Every year we set ourselves a project and for the first time ever (in eight years) we have actually done what we aimed for plus even more which we didn’t plan for!

“It’s been a good year.”

Aside from cash though, here are some of the other things that Ark needs from the public:

  •  Puppy food pellets and tins. Montego and Royal Canin puppy is their preferred brand for quarantined pups but they use all other brands too.
  • Milko-Pup puppy milk
  • Soft toys and treats for our puppies
  • Chew toys and treats
  •  Real meat, chicken necks, liver, rice, etc as they cook for their pups daily
  •  Interior and exterior wall paint (always needed!)
  • Office stationery such as scissors, pens, correction fluid, etc
  • Cleaning products for office, kitchen such as bleach, washing powder, dishwashing liquid, all-purpose liquid cleaner, multi-purpose thick bleach, dustbin bags, used shopping bags, newspapers
  • F10 cleaning solution (can be bought from most vets)
  •  3ml syringes
  • Cotton wool
  • Trees, plants and greenery, pavers, cobbles for the garden and around the kennels
  • Weld mesh fencing
  • Hosepipes
  • Spray bottles
  • Building sand, plaster sand, bricks, cement, concrete mix etc.
  • Grass
  • Cages for clinic
  • Tooth-cleaning kit for clinic estimated to be R20 000 (this is becoming a necessity as they have many dogs with terrible teeth issues.)
  • Second-hand X-ray machine estimated to be R80 000 (a nice to have but not a great necessity at this time as they currently go to another vet when needed).
