Stage 2 load-shedding moves to stage 4

JOHANNESBURG – Eskom said that stage 2 load-shedding will be implemented from 9am until 11pm tonight, however, this has changed and the power utility has announced that it will be implementing stage 4 load-shedding from 10am to 11pm today.

According to a released statement by Eskom, Stage 1 rotational load-shedding was being implemented until 9am this morning ( 9 November) as a result of a shortage of capacity, with a number of generating units still out of service due to breakdowns.
Eskom said that stage 2 load-shedding will be implemented from 9am until 11pm tonight, however, this has changed and the power utility has announced that it will be implementing stage 4 load-shedding from 10am to 11pm today.
“Load-shedding is required all day today to cater for further trips and to create the capacity to replenish water reserves for our pumped storage schemes. Eskom will communicate if there is a change in the system during the day,” said Eskom in a released statement.
“With unplanned breakdowns at 11 780MW as at 7am today, we continue to utilise water resources at our pumped storage schemes, to supplement capacity. We have not used any of our open cycle gas turbines (OCGTs) yesterday and are not planning to use them today in order to conserve our emergency reserves for the coming week.”
The power utility has again urged customers to reduce demand as a concerted collective effort can help to avoid or lessen the level of load-shedding. “As we are experiencing rainy and cooler weather conditions in some parts of the country, we ask that you use efficient heating to keep warm and switch off your geysers over peak periods.”
Eskom customers can check their load-shedding schedules on the Eskom website or through  the customer contact centre on 08600 37566
