Families have a smashing time at Dainfern Tennis Club’s Parent and Child Tournament

DAINFERN – Families have a smashing time at Dainfern Tennis Club's inaugural Parent and Child Tournament.

Smiles and positive encouragement were the order of the day and family bonds were strengthened at the inaugural Parent and Child Tournament at Dainfern Tennis Club.

The club, which is just over one year old, hosted nine doubles teams comprising a parent and their child each, at this event on a hot and sunny 30 November.

Every good shot was applauded by teammate and opponent alike and between matches the families tried out beach tennis, for a more social and easier game or two.

No one criticised a loose serve or mishit. In fact, people laughed at their own mistakes and any competitiveness some people felt at the start of the tournament was gone by the end of the first two sets.

“We want people to have a fun day out and experience tennis and also bond in their relationships,” said Samantha White, general manager of Tennis Inc, which runs tennis at the club.

Head coach, Lovemore Kadzora said he hoped the tournament could become an annual one. “I am very happy with the response by players and how our partners and sponsors got on board with the event,” he said.

“Our club is just over a year old and we are always growing. We will introduce a third coach in January.”

The staff of Tennis Inc ran around on the day ensuring all the beach tennis rackets were in use and the tournament matches ran smoothly and without incident.
