Crawford Prep School Fourways grade 1 to 3 learners set the stage on fire with their performances

FOURWAYS – Crawford Preparatory School in Fourways gave their foundation phase learners a time to shine on stage.

Parents and senior learners of Crawford Preparatory School gathered on 23 October to support the adorable grades 1 to 3 learners as they gave an amazing show in the school hall.

Thanks to their talented music and drama teacher Mercia Silcock, the production was a success. Focused on exploring the concept of space and the impact of catastrophes on a global scale, the young ones shared wise words on saving the earth and not letting technology rip people away from humanity and reality.

Principal of the school Ian Rothman said, “These kids are so young yet ooze so much confidence which we instil in them for the time when they get here. Hiccups are normal during production and they are not punished for them because they are very young. We try make the production relevant for their life, terms used, music played and props used are relevant for them and today’s generation.”

The children sang current songs, showed off their dancing skills and had current technology props like hoverboards.

Deputy principal Robyn Hardy said, “Our foundation phase learners prepare for this in their music and drama class which they attend every week. Every teacher gets involved in making the event possible.

“I just honestly oversee everything and help where help is needed. Our Grade 7s also get involved and are basically in charge of backstage, lights and music.”

The evening started off with Grade 1s with their starburst planet theme, followed by Grade 2s with their cosmic candy planet theme and, last but not least, the Grade 3s with their supernova theme.

The school’s music and drama teacher Mercia Silcock graced the audience with her amazing singing voice towards the end of the show.

Silcock said, “I’m very proud of the them, this ignites every child on stage. I don’t like singling them out, whatever strong points each child has, we use that. When they have a hiccup they just keep going.

She concluded, “It’s passion that ignites purpose in my own life personally, especially the child that sits in the corners who is a little bit shy if I can bring them out of their shell and build their confidence and that to me means I was able to impart what God has given me. I look forward to planning for next year.”
