As the year draws to a close, many schools are having matric dances for their Grade 12s in celebration of the end of schooling – but not all girls will have their dream dresses to wear on the night.
Jaci Tibbit, a Fourways resident known for her charity work, decided to do what she could and asked around for dress donations to give to the less fortunate.
On 16 October she and her friend Pamela Niemand, a local businesswoman, visited the Diepsloot Combined School in the informal settlement with some very special gifts – 35 formal dresses in a range of colours for the Grade 12 girls to wear on their special night.
Tibbit spends much of her time volunteering for the Role Models Foundation, which uses donated funds to create and distribute food packs for the hungry, as well as to support underprivileged schools around the county. It is through this work that she discovered a need for formal dresses and decided to ask her contacts if they could help.
“Thank you so much for Dennis Lloyd for the donations and for making these young ladies’ dreams a reality,” Tibbit said.
“They were so grateful, excited and over the moon with their dresses!”
Lloyd is the founder and owner of the Crystal Lace Designer Collections shop located in Centurion, and the dresses he donated came in a range of colours and styles.
“If we are not living our life to make someone else’s life better, then we are not really living at all,” Tibbit concluded.
