And trust us, it’s a taste explosion that’s worth the drive. For starters, we tucked into the chicken wings and blooming onion – oh what a treat.

What’s a blooming onion? It’s a whole onion cut exactly right to show quite an appealing blooming effect. In short, it’s everything we’ve ever loved about battered fried onions. Later, we bit into the bacon jam burger – think succulent chicken breast, covered in a marmie bacon jam, creamy Emmental sauce and white cheddar served on freshly baked roll. Yum!

We’ve tried tequila in a host of different ways but trying it in a lime chicken sandwich was a first – and, trust us, this is no mere sandwich! It’s filled with pulled rotisserie chicken, tequila, fresh lime, fresh chillies, corn salsa, avocado, cheddar cheese and house mayo packed into a freshly baked baguette.

Pair these meals with the corn salsa and you have summer on a plate. We couldn’t possibly leave without trying the rotisserie chicken – after all, it is Roasting Jack’s specialty! And what a taste explosion their chicken is. It’s juicy, tasty and healthy. (It’s also pretty easy on your pocket.)

Both meals were so fresh and tasty, not to mention filling, that we simply had no space for dessert (so we’ll go back for it). You just have to try the delish spritzers – our faves were the strawberry and thyme as well as the watermelon and ginger. One thing is for certain, no matter what you order, it’s going to be scrumptious. You can find them at The Wedge shopping centre in Morningside.
