MIDRAND – Eight crime incidents were reported to the Midrand Police Station for Sector 4 between 17 and 24 September, according to the station's spokesperson.


Between 17 and 24 September, eight crime incidents were reported to the Midrand Police Station.

All the incidents were reported in Sector 4, which includes Glenferness, Kyalami, Barbarque Downs and Blue Hills. The information was supplied to Fourways Review by spokesperson for the station, Sergeant Matome Tlamela.

Woman calls security after employee becomes aggressive

A case of intimidation was reported in Glenferness on 17 September. A woman who owns stables on Lachlan Road employed a man to work as a horse groom at her business. Along with a number of complaints from other employees about the difficulties of working with this groom, the woman also noticed that on 16 September, the man left the property for lunch and never returned. When she asked the man about his absence when he returned to work on 17 September, he allegedly became aggressive and defensive, and told the woman to ‘mind her own business’. During the argument, the man apparently took the woman’s car keys and ran into the house. The woman managed to lock herself in her car and called her security company for assistance who then contacted the police.

Woman’s car stolen

A case of theft of a motor vehicle was reported in Kyalami on 20 September. A woman parked her black VW Polo outside a sports complex in the area at about 9.20am as her company was hosting a team building event at the venue. When she returned to her vehicle at about 2pm the same day, she discovered that her vehicle was no longer there and contacted Midrand police to report the theft. The vehicle is worth an estimated

R60 000 and no arrests have yet been made.

Bathroom queue thief gets arrested

A case of theft was reported in Kyalami on 21 September. A police officer was on duty at a public event in the Kyalami area when he needed to use the bathroom at about 6.30pm. He went to the public bathrooms where a number of both men and women were waiting their turn in the queue to use the facilities. While he was waiting for his turn, he noticed a man in the queue unzip the handbag of the woman standing in front of him and remove a Samsung phone. The officer immediately went up to the man and demanded that he return the stolen phone to the woman. After initially claiming he had not taken the phone, the man eventually relented and took it out of his pocket and returned it to the woman. The thief was taken into police custody.

Man hijacked on R55

A case of hijacking was reported in Kyalami on 22 September. A motorist was travelling on the R55 in his gold Toyota just after midnight when his stationary vehicle was allegedly approached by two men travelling in another vehicle. They got out of their car, approached the man’s vehicle and one of the men pointed a firearm at the motorist and pulled him out of his car. One man got into the Toyota and drove off while the second man returned to their vehicle and drove off. The Toyota is worth about R38 000.

Woman assaulted at public event

A case of common assault was reported in the Kyalami area on 22 September. A woman was at a public event at about 7.30pm when about 15 men, who identified themselves as bouncers for the event, came up to her and accused her of assaulting another patron who the woman claimed she did not know. The men allegedly dragged her from her seat and the physical ordeal caused bruising on her back.

Another crime against a woman committed

A case of rape was reported in the Barberque Downs area on 22 September. A woman invited her boyfriend to spend the night at her house and the couple apparently had consensual sex at about 9pm, using their last condom, before falling asleep. Later that night at about midnight the woman alleged that she woke up to find her boyfriend on top of her and demanding that they have sex a second time. The woman asked the man to get off her and that she was not interested in having sex without a condom, but he ignored her and held her arms as he forced himself on her before falling asleep again. “I was so confused and frightened by what had just happened, by just being raped,” she wrote in her police report. The boyfriend’s name and address is known to police.

Man robbed by a woman

A case of common robbery was reported in Kyalami on 24 September. A man was driving on Summit Road at about 4.40pm when he decided to give a woman walking down the road a lift. When the woman exited the car at her drop off point, she allegedly grabbed the man’s bag which contained two cell phones and ran off into the veld where she was joined by two men and another two women who had been waiting for her. No arrests have yet been made in the case.

Argument ends in domestic violence

A case of domestic violence was reported in Kyalami on 24 September. The woman’s ex-partner came to her offices in the area at about 6.30pm to drop off their daughter as part of their custody arrangement. While he was there, the woman asked him to call her rather than send text messages in the future and an argument broke out. The man then allegedly spat at the woman, pushed her around and then poked her in the right eye before driving off.
