SA Guide-Dogs Association hosts high tea

PAULSHOF – The SA Guide-Dogs Association hosted a high tea last month to celebrate women.

Guests of a high tea with a twist enjoyed some cheese and wine at the SA Guide-Dogs Association in Paulshof recently.

The day was aimed at celebrating women and the motto was: Get your sparkle back. The event, organised by the head of marketing for the association Nadia Sands, was nothing short of a success.

A number of women gathered under a stretch tent, touches of pink decorations and goody bags stood out on the tables and chairs. The cutest guide dogs walked between the tables, getting a good pat from everyone.

Actress, director, and journalist Elizabeth Meiring was the programme director for the day and she had everyone in stitches. She also gave some advice, “Ladies, its important to give your body a good dry brush before bath time. [Using a body brush]… every day will fade cellulite as it helps with lymph drainage,” she said.

The day started with some inspiring words from life coach Mabel Terblanche who spoke about the importance of adjusting to change and having a solid support system to survive adversities.

Another famous actress, well known as ‘Maggie’ from Isidingo, Karin van der Laag spoke about how people can really learn from dogs about being empathetic.

She recalled how her dogs comforted her when she was playing an emotional role on 7de Laan.

“I had to sob almost every day for this role and when I would get home, my dogs could see I wasn’t okay so they would lie down with me and one would come to lie on my back and the other would lick my hands. [I think we don’t realise] the depth of what dogs can give to human beings.”

Cosmetologist Taryn Garcao from Sorbet unleashed the secrets to keeping skin looking young. “Use products that boost collagen in your skin. Look for ingredients like retinol, alpha hydroxy acid, and beta hydroxy acid when looking for anti-aging products.”

By the end of the event, all the women felt inspired and armed with beauty tips for spring.

“I’m very happy with the outcome. This event was to make women feel special and empowered and it did just that. Thanks to Bulldog Function Hire, Moreson, Sorbet Group and RO3 Oasis for sponsoring the event,” Sands concluded.
