Fourways resident is on a mission to bring joy to children in the community
FOURWAYS – A local resident urges the community to take part in his #EveryChildShouldHaveOne campaign by donating towards a party he plans to raise funds for and host for 300 children.
Fourways resident, Andrew Lockhart who loves spending time with his children and showing them how much joy can be found in a Hot Wheels car, has started an initiative to bring joy to children in the community.
Andrew started collecting Hot Wheels when he was a child and recently rekindled his love by sharing in the fun with his son Dillon and his daughter Layla. In February this year, he started a Hot Wheels Facebook group called Hotwheels Revolution, which has members all over South Africa and the other countries.
Since it is Hot Wheels’ 50th birthday this year, Andrew decided to give back to his community by vowing to raise funds and donate 300 Hot Wheels cars to a children’s home in the area.
Lockhart together with his wife, Samantha Lockhart, are organising a party for 300 children at LIV Lanseria on 31 August and would like the community to donate towards this amazing initiative. “We believe every child should have a toy hence #EveryChildShouldHaveOne. A Hot Wheels [car] only costs R35 but can bring so much joy to a child,” said Samantha.
“There are so many types and colours, you get ones based on movies like the Toy Story collection, you get ones based on real cars that children can imagine owning one day, and you get fantasy ones like a hotdog one and a bubble machine one.”
“We are hoping, as this kind of event takes a lot more planning than we realised, that we could reach out to the amazing Fourways community for a few more generous donations.”
The Lockharts would appreciate donations of the following:
- Possible party needs:
Sweets, chips or popcorn and a popcorn machine
Bags for the popcorn, sweets and Hot Wheels (300)
Jam or syrup for sandwiches
300 disposable cups
Volunteers to help hand out sandwiches and drinks. - Possible entertainment:
Face painters
Photographers to capture the moments of joy
Magicians or similar entertainment. - Sponsorship already received:
300 Hot Wheels cars from people all over the world and Mattel South Africa and Blue Horizon branding
Peanut butter from local business Pure Bliss
50 loaves of bread
Jumping castles, sponsored by local businesses Holicow and Carrie’s jumping castles
Some dress-up characters such as a bumblebee and belly dancing lessons from Kim Williams at Goddess entertainment.
“We are hoping to do this regularly, however, this is our first campaign and our first attempt at any type of charity drive. We want to see more children playing and experiencing joy, raising hope and bringing joy to children,” Samantha concluded.
