Dainfern College athletes compete

DAINFERN – It was a day of fun and sports as the children at Dainfern College took part in the school's high school inter-house athletics tournament on 7 August.


Dainfern College held their high school inter-house athletics events in the final week of term on 7 August.

Athletes in the Griffin, Phoenix and Kraken school teams competed in track and field events on the day including shot put, long jump, high jump, discus, javelin and individual and relay track events.

Makanaka Nyengerai was awarded the junior victrix ludorum trophy for scoring 1 810 points on the Athletics Performance Evaluation Tables (APE) scale. Makanaka also broke the long jump record with a distance of 4.69m.

Brandon Johnson-Williams was awarded the junior victor ludorum trophy for scoring 2010 points on the APE scale.

Gabriella Gait-Smith was awarded the senior victrix ludorum trophy. She scored

2 230 points on the APE scale. Gabriella also broke two records with times of 4:35:11 in the 1 500m event, and 1:04.05 in the 400m event.

Michael Gait-Smith was awarded the senior victor ludorum trophy. He scored 1980 points on the APE scale. Michael also broke three records with times of 4:35:11 in the 1 500m event, 2:01:19 in the 800m event, and 54:91 in the 400m event.

Gabriella Gait-Smith was awarded the trophy for best performance in the 1 500m event – she scored 7 907 points.

Congratulations to Phoenix who won the trophy and the spirit trophy.

The final standings were:

• Phoenix 730 points

• Griffin 689 points

• Kraken 672 points.
