Young stars sing their hearts out

PAULSHOF – About 450 young performers, including two from Fourways High School, will soon storm the stage as part of the Born To Perform show coming to Montecasino in September.

Talented youngsters have the chance to not only learn more about their craft, but also the chance to learn and grow as people as part of the upcoming Born To Perform production of Shine which is coming to the Teatro at Montecasino in September.

Founded in 2015 by married couple Gemma and Matthew Marinus, the owners of the Stageworx Studio in Northview, as a platform to give young performers opportunities and experience in the arts, Born To Perform will see about 450 young performers between eight and 22 years old perform material from favourites like The Greatest Showman, Hamilton, School of Rock, and others during four shows held between 14 and 16 September at the Teatro Theatre at Montecasino.

Among the young cast are two stars from Fourways High School, Jamie Nell and Micah Stojakvic, who have their own duet during the show.

The children will perform alongside celebrity appearances by The Voice SA winner Craig Lucas and The Voice SA finalist Thembeka Mnguni as well as a special appearance from Yahto Kraft from the current season of The Voice SA.

“We set up Born To Perform as a platform for young performers to get professional experience on stage. Shine will be a variety show with lots of difference styles of music and dance – from opera to electronic dance music,” explained Gemma. “While for some it may be a spring board to start their career, it is also a chance for them to have an amazing experience.

“In a single word, we want this experience to transform them. We want these kids to learn to take a deeper look at themselves and also learn to understand others.”
