Help Kerry Walsh get a new electric wheelchair

FOURWAYS – Kerry Walsh, the young Fourways resident affected by spinal muscular atrophy, needs help from the public in order to purchase a new electrical wheelchair.

Fourways resident and motivational speaker Kerry Walsh and her loved ones are appealing to the public for donations so that Walsh can get a new wheelchair.

Walsh is 21 years old and as a young child was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy, a genetic disease that affects the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord and affects her ability to walk. As such, Walsh uses an electric wheelchair to get around, although the wheelchair she currently uses is about 10 years old and is no longer fully functional. Danielle Mynhardt, a friend of Walsh, has started an online campaign on the BackaBuddy website to help the public contribute to this fund.

“I see Kerry struggle daily and her current wheelchair does not function to its full capability anymore and her disease comes with a lot of medical costs.” Mynhardt wrote on the page dedicated to the fundraising. “Therefore, I would like to raise funds to be able to buy her a new wheelchair.”

At the time of publishing, the campaign had already collected over R9 000 of the R150 000 needed for the purchase.

Since 2015, Walsh has been working as a motivational speaker and has started the Kerry Walsh Trust to help raise the funds for her medical treatments and needs.
