Kickboxer Keanen Cavanagh wins third fight at the Supreme Fight League

SUNNINGHILL – Becoming world champion is the only thing on the mind of kickboxer, Keanen Cavanagh.

Keanen Cavanagh (19) has made it three wins out of three in the Supreme Fight League (SFL) and aims now to dominate the cruiserweight division across the world.

The sixth edition of the SFL played out at The Barnyard Theatre Rivonia in Sunninghill, in front of a packed crowd on 29 June. Cavanagh, an amateur fighter, beat a professional fighter, Ceeh ‘The Destroyer’ Khubone via unanimous decision.

“I am very happy with the results I had at the last three Supreme Fight Leagues, and a lot is thanks to my coach Francois Carney,” Cavanagh told Fourways Review.

“I used to be a brawler but he taught me to plan my points, to think like an international fighter.”

Cavanagh will next flex his muscles at the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations Senior World Championships in Bosnia and Herzegovina in October.

“Amateur and professional kickboxers fight there and a lot of pro scouts are there and sponsors so it could help me get sponsors. But my main goal is to become world champion, it doesn’t matter as much whether I am professional or not.”

Cavanagh started kickboxing 13 years ago when at the tender age of six his parents thought it would be a good idea to learn to defend himself in case of bullying.

“I loved it. I had my first fight at six years old and my first full contact fight in a ring at seven.”

Cavanagh said he has never had to defend himself in a real-life situation, and that was thanks to what he had learnt in kickboxing.

“The sport actually teaches you discipline, respect, and honour as a guideline for love. It helps you keep calm and handle situations. For instance, if a drunk person hit me, I would calm the situation and talk him down.”

He said kickboxers were friendly outside the ring and ensured there were no hard feelings after fights.
